Something about this…
“ Every journey into the past is complicated by delusions, false memories, false namings of real events. ”
Once, I was invited to a press conference held by Mayor Bloomberg and Related Properties (a client of my firms’) for the Hudson Yards Project. It was one of those affairs where everyone dresses in smart business suits and put on smiles for the cameras as they wish one another the best in their endeavors. It began with the Mayor saying how great this project will be for the city and ended with the Developer showing everyone the proposed layout. It was held in a clear tint on a crisp rainy morning on site, directly next to the Hudson River. I’d grabbed coffee to keep my hands warm and for a better view I stood off to the side towards the front with my team. Once the press conference was over I went to grab another coffee. I was unaware that pictures followed press conferences. Anyway, once back in my original place someone gestures for me to walk over and get into the picture as they stood around one of the models. I felt rediculous going so I stayed where I was. Some random guy walks up to me and starts making small talk when out of my periphery I see Bloomberg walking towards me, smiling no less. I resist the temptation to look behind me to see if someone’s there. “Hello” he says. “Good morning.” I reply. He takes my free hand and introduces himself as the mayor. I say something that makes him smile. (I don’t remember the exchange exactly) and he lets it go. Thirty seconds after he leaves a lady walks up to me and says “You are fierce!” and leaves behind him. I certainly felt like it.
